About

Marta studied in the Sacred Heart and in Mary Coredemptrix Schools in Madrid.
She began her pictorial training in the ‘Workshop for Child Painters’ and the ‘Study of Art CREART’ in Madrid, under the tutoring of his artistic mentor Pablo García Simó. Marta is a member of the associations of elite artists with IDD ‘Artistas Diversos’ and ‘ArteDown’. She has complemented her humanistic training at the Prodis Foundation’s Occupational Center. In the last 4 years she has been perfecting her pictorial training in the artistic workshops of ‘La Casa Encendida’ and of ‘Matadero’ in Madrid, and in the Department of Fine Arts of the Complutense University of Madrid, within the scope of the ‘Debajo del Sombrero’ Association, for a small selection of disabled artists with great gifts.

Marta was born on June 15, 1993 in Madrid. She has one brother and two sisters, these also with artistic gifts. Marta lives now in Miami where she is applying to the New World School of Arts, and is a member of Best Buddies International.

  • Marta participated in different exhibitions organized by various institutions, such as the PRODIS Foundation, or the Madrid City Council, Fuencarral-El Pardo District, where she won the 1st Prize in 2007, and other organizations such as the Down Syndrome Foundation or the Thyssen Foundation.
  • In 2008, the first time that Marta Paramo presented herself to the International Painting Contest of the Down Syndrome Foundation of Madrid (FSDM), was the surprise for the Jury, made up of artists and personalities from the art world of the prestige of the painter Diego Canogar, or Maria Corral, among other great names, using their own comments. The three works presented by Marta were shortlisted by
    the Jury for the 1st Prize, which finally won with the painting titled “The Crest of my Hand”, awarded with 1,800 Euros. The other two finalist paintings, “My Grey Cow” and “Four Parakeets” were acquired by the Repsol Foundation, where they are exhibited in its online Virtual Museum.
  • The same year 2008 Marta won the 2nd Prize of the Christmas Contest organized by the Down Syndrome Foundation itself.
  • In 2009, her 2nd year of participation in the same International Down Syndrome Foundation Painting Contest (FSDM), Marta won two awards: the 2nd Prize in Oil Painting for her work “My dog is a Person” and the 3rd Prize of the section Other Techniques with the work “My Horses at Sunset”.
  • Also in 2009, her version of the painting “Les Vessenots” by Van Gogh was selected among more than 40 participants as one of the 3 finalists in the Thyssen Foundation Contest, to choose works that were after engraved in merchandising articles for sale at the Thyssen Museum store for charitable purposes.
  • In 2009, she exhibited several of her award-winning paintings at the Exposition “Art Without Filters” in the public exhibition center ‘La Casa de Vacas’ in Madrid.
  • In 2011 Marta Paramo was chosen by the Down Syndrome Foundation as one of the 12 disabled artists who participated in the innovative art project “El Abrazo del Arte”. This event brought together the 12 most prestigious interior designers and fashion designers in Spain with the best 12 Down artists, forming 12 teams to which they were assigned 12 paintings of the main Spanish painters of the 19th and 20th centuries. Each Down syndrome painter made a reproduction of the assigned painting, which was exhibited in the ‘Matadero’ center of Madrid in a stand decorated and dressed by the Interior designers and fashion designers of each of the 12 artistic teams. The 12 stands of “El Abrazo del Arte” were exhibited for several months in the exhibition hall of Matadero de Madrid with the sponsorship of the top Spanish corporations. Marta Paramo was assigned the work by Mariano Fortuny, “The Children of the Painter in the japanese Hall”, with the famous fashion designer Agatha Ruiz de la Prada and the interior designer Mamen Garcia de la Hoz on Marta’s team. Afterwards Marta sold her painting for 1,500 Euros to private collectors, a milestone in the Art-Down, which was why she was interviewed in July
    2011 by the famous anchorman Pedro Piqueras in the main TV channel of the National TV station Telecinco, news that were also published in many Spanish media.
  • In 2011 she exhibited 6 months at the Gaudi Gallery in Madrid, and was the 1st Down Artist ever invited to exhibit at the ‘Open Art Fair’ in Utrecht, Holland (Sept. 2011).
  • In 2013, Marta was admitted to the exclusive Association “Debajo del Sombrero” art workshop program for a short selection of outstanding handicapped artists, having been trained and working since then in the art and exhibition centers ‘La Casa Encendida’ and ‘Matadero’ in Madrid
  • In 2014 Marta was the first disabled painter ever admitted to the Department of Fine Arts of the Complutense University of Madrid, under the program of the ‘Debajo del Sombrero’ Association, learning and developing since then her pictorial skills in the famous artistic university center

In addition to being a great painter, Marta has excelled by her gifts as a gymnast of the Rhythmic Gymnastics Team of Mary Coredemptrix School, with whom she won the Spanish Sub-Championships and the Madrid Championship, and has been an official member of the Psycho-ballet Maite León Company for several years, with which she made several tours and won several awards. Her artistic side is complemented by the sports one in which Marta is a great fan of horse-back riding, skiing, and more recently padel-tennis, sailing and golf.
